AIMI Summer Research Internship

# AIMI Summer Research Internship Stanford's Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine & Imaging (AIMI) runs a two-week, fully virtual summer research internship for high school students interested in using AI to advance human health. The 2026 cycle offered two sessions (June 15-26 and July 6-17), meeting Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time. ## What You'll Do - Work in a small team on a mentored health-AI research question - Attend lectures covering the fundamentals of AI in healthcare and medical imaging - Join hands-on project sessions with research mentorship from the AIMI community - Hear from guest experts working at the intersection of medicine and machine learning ## Who Should Apply Applicants must currently attend a US high school and be entering grades 9-12 in the fall, be at least 14 by the program start, and reside in the US throughout the program. AIMI states a strong preference for students with solid math and/or programming skills or prior healthcare project experience. There is a $45 application fee and a $2,400 program fee due upon acceptance; need-based financial aid covers partial to full costs, and no application fee is due when submitting the financial aid application. Applications for 2026 opened December 15, 2025 and closed February 21, 2026 - expect a similar winter window for the next cycle. ## Outcomes Students who fully participate (no more than one absence) earn a Certificate of Completion from Stanford AIMI, finish a team research project, and build mentored experience in one of the fastest-growing areas of medicine.
