# St. Jude High School Research Immersion Program The High School Research Immersion Program (HSRI) is an eight-week paid summer research experience at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, run by the hospital's STEMM Education and Outreach team. The 2026 program runs June 1–July 25, with students working a typical 9 a.m.–5 p.m. day, about 40 hours per week. Every participant receives a $4,800 stipend. ## What You'll Do - Work in pairs with a research mentor to conduct a mentored research project - Join a St. Jude laboratory, psychology, epidemiology, clinical, or data science research program - Meet weekly with a science educator to reflect on the nature of science and who gets positioned as a scientist - Develop a personal statement for your college application that draws on your research experience ## Who Should Apply Current high school juniors (rising seniors) who are at least 16 years old with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and attend a high school in the Memphis–Shelby County area or the immediate surrounding counties in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas. The program is competitive and free to attend — students are paid rather than charged. The 2026 application deadline has passed; applications for each summer cycle open the preceding fall. ## Outcomes Students finish with a completed mentored research project at one of the nation's leading pediatric research institutions, a $4,800 stipend, a college-ready personal statement, and relationships with working St. Jude scientists and mentors.
