# MediaWise Teen Fact-Checking Network The Teen Fact-Checking Network (TFCN) is "a virtual newsroom made up of middle and high schoolers who use social media to debunk viral misinformation and share media literacy tips." It is run by MediaWise, the youth media-literacy arm of the Poynter Institute, one of the country's leading journalism organizations. Launched in 2019, the TFCN publishes fact-checks across social media and produces the YouTube series "Is This Legit?"; Poynter reports the network's videos have generated more than 150 million views, and the model has expanded to nine countries. MediaWise continued growing its youth programs in 2026 with major foundation grants. ## What You'll Do - Work in a remote teen newsroom, fact-checking viral claims from social platforms - Learn professional verification and digital media-literacy techniques from MediaWise journalists - Script and produce short-form fact-check videos and social posts published on MediaWise channels - Collaborate with teen fact-checkers from across the country on editorial cycles ## Who Should Apply Middle and high school students in the United States who are curious, online-savvy, and interested in journalism or fighting misinformation. Cohort application windows are announced through MediaWise's social channels; interested students can also contact the team at mwtips@poynter.org. There is no cost to participate. ## Outcomes Teen fact-checkers build published verification work with a national audience, professional training from Poynter journalists, and standout experience in news literacy - a credential few high schoolers can claim.
