# Youth Mentorship in the Arts Youth Mentorship in the Arts is the flagship program of New Urban Arts, a nationally recognized community arts studio for high school students in Providence. The yearlong after-school program pairs roughly 20 trained artist mentors with small groups of teens who explore and create art on their own terms in a free, drop-in storefront studio — recognized with the national Coming Up Taller award presented by First Lady Michelle Obama. ## What You'll Do - Create work across printmaking, painting, photography, music, fashion, creative writing, and more with artist mentors, October through May - Drop into the free studio on weekdays (open 2:45-6:45 pm) with snacks, free bus passes, and homework tutoring provided - Apply for paid four-week summer intensives like the Summer Art Inquiry, which carry a $400 participation stipend - Get one-on-one college and career support through the A Life After School (ALAS) advising program as a junior or senior ## Who Should Apply Any high school student in the Providence area — most participants attend Providence public schools. Everything is free of charge, no portfolio or experience required; students simply complete the online enrollment form. ## Outcomes Participants build sustained creative practices and mentor relationships, earn stipends through summer internships, and receive concrete help with college applications, jobs, and life after high school.
