# High School Engineering Institute (HSEI) The High School Engineering Institute is a residential summer program at Michigan State University in East Lansing for students seriously considering engineering as a career. Across five days on campus, participants sample the breadth of engineering majors before they ever fill out a college application. In 2026 the program ran four sessions between June 14 and July 16. ## What You'll Do - Learn about a different engineering major each day with MSU faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates - Take part in short lectures, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and team-based problem solving - Tour engineering research facilities across campus - Hear from the Honors College, Admissions Office, Study Abroad, and co-op/undergraduate-research offices - Live in an MSU residence hall for the full session ## Who Should Apply Co-ed and open to U.S. and international students entering grades 10-12 (and recent graduates) with roughly a 3.0 GPA or better in math, science, and technology coursework. Program fee is $1,099; each session has its own application deadline shortly before it begins. ## Outcomes Participants leave with a clear comparison of engineering disciplines, exposure to a Big Ten engineering college, and contacts among MSU faculty and students — useful groundwork for choosing a major and building a college list.
